Xiaoyu Fu starts with us today. Ms Fu will be teaching Mandarin Chinese as well as the art of Chinese calligraphy to our Year 6 pupils every week until July. Having explored some of the outcomes from Mrs Daves' initial visit to our partner school in Chongqing in May, pupils were interested to begin learning the language used by their new friends and also to develop some of skills in chinese lettering they have seen them using in the videos.

Visit from Mr. Mark Mathias

Mr Mark Mathias. Police Superintendent for Swansea / NPT visited us today and joined the school council in a number of activities. Council members shared with Mr Mathias some of the activities which help promote team building and took time to explain the nature of their work.

Mr Mathias has offered us a link to the police website which would allow our weekly podcasts to be uploaded there as well.

After School Club restarts

In response to parents' requests, we have restarted our After School Club. In addition, we have arranged for child care provision to run until 6pm each night. Parents will recall that the club ceased to run previously because of a general lack of interest. In order for the club to be viable it really needs to cater for a minimum of 15 children each day so I would urge parents, especially those who campaigned so hard for its reinstatement, to make as much use of it as possible and to help us spread the word to parents who have not previously used the provision.

Eco Success!!

Huge congratulations need to be offered up to Mrs John, Mrs Taylor and the Eco team for their amazing work towards the second green flag award. The assessor visited the school today to examine our work which aims to develop pupil awareness of global citizenship issues. He was deeply impressed by the range, scope and quality of the outcomes he observed and as a result our school becomes one of only two to gain this hugely respected award. Incidentally, he was also extremely complimentary about the attitude and behaviour of our pupils. We are so proud of the fforts of this team and very grateful to Mrs John and Mrs Taylor's hard work which ensures these key objectives (which contribute so much to our school's positive ethos) are sustained. Well done, everyone!! A very special celebration assembly is planned for Monday, July 13th.

Reception Parents' Welcome Evening

Parents of our new Reception class 2009 children joined us for a 'welcome evening' this week. As well as finding out a little more about the daily routines which their children can look forward to in September, parents were introduced to the different learning activities our pupils benefit from. The PTA would also like to offer a warm welcome to all new parents and have asked me to remind everyone that the first meeting of the new school year will take place in September.

Eco Day

We ended a spectacular Eco Week with a 'Green Focus Day' today. Everyone dressed in green for the event and celebrated the many imaginative activities classes have been involved in over the course of the week. Our usual weekly celebration concert took on a green focus too and we were pleased to welcome Mr Geraint Davies again (2nd time in one week!) who presented awards on behalf of the Eco Team. Many thanks to the Eco Team, all staff, and Mrs John in particular, who worked so hard to make this week a success.
