"Work hard, aim high, share and care"

Nov 09

In order to continue our fundraising for the rainforest initiative, we shall be selling biscuits every Monday playtime (am.)  We hope all funds raised will be enough to allow us to sponsor more rainforest areas in Columbia.  The biscuits are 10p and 20p.  Thankyou

Oct 09

We have held meetings to discuss our new rainforest program.  After all our fundraising events in the summer term, we have finally been able to adopt 2.5 acres of rainforest in northwest Ecuador and southwest Colombia.  We shall be helping to save all the amazing plants and animals that live there, like the tapir, toucan and sloth.

We shall be continuing to raise money to adopt even more rainforest and help save our planet.

The wonderful Eco Team held a presentation for over 20 teachers from across Swansea on Friday 18th April.  They showed our visitors around the school grounds, told them everything that we had done to get the Green Flag and then held a number of workshops based in the Woodland Walk.  All the teachers were amazed at the confidence and expertise of the Team and gave us loads of compliments.  Mrs Taylor and Mrs John were so proud!  We are now planning our Eco day with the School Council.

We hope you all have a lovely Easter break and we will see everyone return safe and sound on Tuesday 8th April.

March 08

We recently hosted the LEA Forest School Dissemination conference at our school and it was well attended by over 20 Swansea teachers.  Our year 2,3 and 4 Eco members participated in the morning when they were interviewed about their perceptions of Forest School in Waunarlwydd Primary.  The year 5 and 6 members took over in the afternoon and organised a number of activities for the delegates in our woodland.  All teachers involved had a superb time and their feedback of the games and activities was excellent.  All commented on the wonderful attitude and capabilities of the children - they were astounded at the Eco members ideas and confidence.

We would like to thank all the children involved and feel so proud of their achievements.  Now we are actively trying to recruit new Eco members from years 3 and 4, so if you would like to join please let the Team know.

Once more THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED US WITH THE DAY!

We are now looking forward to the Green flag day and the Eco Schools conference which will be held in our school in April.

We are now continually monitoring our grounds and will keep everyone informed about our plans for the future. The Eco Team and School Council recently visited the Welsh Assembly Buildings in Cardiff to meet with our Assembly Members.  We all had an amazing day and learnt a great deal about how decisions are made in Wales.

As a final note we have an enormous amount of daffodils flowering at the moment and ask everyone to take care of them as they really brighten up our school grounds.

Remember if you have any ideas on how we can improve our school grounds then please let us know.

Welcome back after a wonderful Christmas holiday.   We have a very busy term ahead  and have already had many new members from the year 2 class wishing to join us on our environmental quest.  We are soon visiting the Welsh Assembly Government buildings in Cardiff to find out all about the democratic process of voting.

We will soon hold our exciting Eco day when we raise our Green Eco flag so watch this space for more information.

What a successful summer term we had.  During July the Schools Eco Assessors came in to meet with the Eco Team and staff in order to judge whether we were ready to be awarded the coveted 'Green Flag' award.  This is a highly acclaimed prize which is only given to schools which have met the exceptionally high standards of the Eco Schools Award.

The Eco Team dressed in their Eco T-shirts and presented a wonderful assembly all about recycling in our school.  Next they showed the assessors around our wonderful school grounds and asked as well as answered lots of 'Green' questions. After an agonizing wait we were finally told that we had won the Green Flag Award and would receive the flag itself in September.

Anyone with a spare flag pole please contact the school!

CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE AND THANKS TO THE ECO TEAM FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORK.  LET'S KEEP IT UP THIS TERM WITH OUR NEW MEMBERS.

Well our Green Eco Flag has arrived and we have now purchased a flag pole.  We will be celebrating our Green Flag status with a HUGE Eco day.........Watch this space for details!

2006/2007 Eco News

The Eco Team have been very busy preparing for the Grand Opening of our wonderful school grounds on Wed. 13th June at 2.30.  We hope that the weather will be kind to us as we are planning to hold a number of Forest School workshops for our guests.  This will be followed by our marvellous school fayre organised by the PTA who work so hard for all the pupils of our school.  Parnts and visitors are welcome to come along and support all the hard work that we have done to improve our school environment.

The Eco Team visited a local garden centre recently on a fine, sunny morning.  We took a large bus which we absolutely FILLED with plants on the way home.  We bought lots of different shrubs, small trees such as lilac and jasmine as well as pots of rich smelling herbs like rosemary and lavender.

We have planted them all around our school and they really look wonderful brightening up both the front and back of our school grounds.

THANKYOU TO THE GOWER SOCIETY FOR THEIR GENEROUS DONATION OF £500

Once more the ECO TEAM  hope you had a fantastic Easter holiday.  We have been very fortunate to have dry, warn weather and have been able to work outside for a large amount of time.  We are at present planning and designing areas of our school for planting.  We have been very lucky to have been awarded a grant from the Gower Society for the purchase of lots of new seeds, plants, shrubs and bulbs to enhance our grounds  and will be visiting a garden centre shortly to buy them.  We are really excited and are sure we will return with wonderful things for us to plant.   Keep in touch and we will let you know what happens!

WELCOME BACK TO EVERYONE AFTER THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS FROM THE ECO TEAMThe Eco Team will be hard at work this term with all the staff in order to achieve our Green Flag status.  We will be making sure all the boxes have been ticked in the application forms.  We are sure that the recycling work and the School Grounds development will play a major role in our success with obtaining the flag and we will continue to ensure we keep our school clean and green

We visited the Welsh Assembly with the School Council and you can read all about our adventures in the school Council links.  The Eco team have recently elected four new members who we are very happy to have work with us.  We are currently preparing for our inspection by making sure that our school is kept beautifully clean and that we recycle and reuse as much as possible.  The developments at the back of the school will be underway very soon and we are excited at the prospect of having extra outdoor classrooms to work in. We have been thinking about our rap which reminds us of everything we work for.  REMEMBER 'We are clean, we are green, we are Waunarlwydd Eco Team.

We are currently working hard completing the School Grounds Project at the rear of our school.  We have conducted a survey as to what children would like to see in the area and have many exciting ideas to take forward when we begin planting  and developing class growing areas.

When we return from the Christmas break we will be working hard on further developing our school grounds with planters, new workstations, bird feeders and many other exciting things such as peer mentoring in the woodland.  We also hope this year to work towards our Green Flag and really make our school GREEN.

The Eco Team wish to thank everyone involved in the School grounds project a very Happy Christmas and a restful New Year.
