"Work hard, aim high, share and care"

Our mediators continue to do a wonderful job and with the completion of our adventure playgrounds, they help oversee pupils when playing in these areas.

Remember pupils are NOT allowed on the equipment before or after school unless an adult is with them.

During playtimes, pupils from the teacher on duty's class are to use the areas.  Mrs Hansen's class is split into yr 3 and yr 4, and they join Mr Jenkins and Mr Voros' children.

PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THE EQUIPMENT AND ENJOY IT SAFELY!

On Thursday 15th Oct our yr 5 mediators visited the Civic Centre in Swansea as part of the local democracy week.  We met the Lord Mayor and learned all about his job as a councillor for Swansea.  We asked him lots of questions and he presented us with certificates.  We took part in a treasure hunt in the library and we all had quash and biscuits.  Later we found out all about the wonderful library services for children and adults. We all had a great time and want to go again.

Our Mediator rota is up and running with yr 5 pupils shadowing our yr 6s.  We are very proud of their commitment and hard work and look forward to further developing these vital life skills during the following months.

Welcome back!!! - Welcome to the new school year.  Our year 6 children are now full mediators and are doing an amazing job sorting out disputes in the playground before they escalate.  We have lots of new toys which are the mediators responsibility at playtimes.  We have had a meeting for new year 5 children who would like to become involved in this very important role within our school. So if you would like to be a trained mediator and are in year 5 then please contact Mrs John.

2006/2007

Welcome back to our mediators page.  We now have a rota set up and running entirely by the year 5's.  They are proving to be superb mediators and are really learning lots of new skills of citizenship and social interaction.  We thank them for their commitment and dedication to the role.

After the May bank holiday the year 6 mediators will be stepping back to allow the year 5 mediators to begin taking charge of the playgrounds in the mediation process. We have a new rota which facilitates this. We know that they will do an amazing job and wish to thank all the year 6 children for their marvellous contributions to our peer mediation team this year. Our best wishes for the Comprehensive school.

After a restful Easter break the mediators return for their final term.  They have done a marvelous job and will take many life skills to their new classes or even new school!    We have many new toys and the mediators have a hard job taking the huge Connect 4 games out every playtime.  Well Done!  Keep up the good work and please remember that you too could be a mediator in the new school year if you work hard and enjoy working with others.

The mediation training has now been completed for year 5 and 6 pupils.  We all worked hard learning how to listen in an active manner and using a variety of role play scenarios to explore a mediator's role.  We played games and learned many new skills which we can all put into action in our playgrounds.

The new rota has been drawn up and year 5s will shadow the year 6 children on duty.  This will allow them to extend their understanding of mediation.  This rota will run until Easter when the mediators on duty in the infants will swap with the juniors.  This will give everyone a chance to work with all ages of children.

We know that our mediators will do a great job and help make our school even more peaceful.  Well done to everyone who trained.

Mediation training has now been arrange for Wednesday 17th January for existing year 6 Mediators and Thursday 18th January for year 5 children who wish to become Mediators.

Training will involve learning many essentail life skills such as active listening and debate.  These skills will be continued in Gowerton Comp. where a mediation scheme also runs successfully.

Welcome back from the Mediation Team!  This term we will be undertaking full mediation training with Mrs John and then we will be fully trained Mediators equipped with the skills of mediation.  We are really excited to be lucky enough to have this training which will help us not only in school but also in our adult lives.  For further developments watch this space! The year 6 mediators are doing a fine job of looking after our younger members and helping them settle into the new routines of school life.  We will be holding formal training for all the year 6 mediators very shortly.  We have also compiled a list of potential year 5 mediators who wish to share and develop their skills of working with others, listening, conflict resolution and problem solving.  These children will be interviewed  shortly in order for them to be trained alongside the year 6s.  We are very proud of our mediators and wih them every success in the last few years in Waunarlwydd.

We have organise a rota for all mediators in years five and six so that they will have experiences in both the junior and infant playgrounds.  During discussion with the school council we have decided that the mediators should bring playground toys out and tidy them away at playtimes.  This will also allow us to monitor their use at all times.  It will also help us decide when it is necessary to purchase replacement items.

The mediators continue to give a weekly report in assembly, awarding stickers for outstanding behaviour.  Remember your mediators are here for YOU.  They will help you at any time and play with you.
