We will shortly be holding school council; elections for the new academic year and will be asking all prospective candidates to make a poster giving all their reasons for wanting to represent our wonderful school. The posters should be colourful with name and class clearly written. A photograph would also be very helpful for anyone who wishes to put a face to the name.So come on get your thinking caps on and let's get drawing!

Waunarlwydd School Council wish everyone a very happy Easter.  Take care and return on Tuesday 8th April safe and well.

March 08

Our school council years 5 and 6 had a very busy time recently preparing and interviewing 6 candidates for the new Deputy Headship of the school. They worked hard asking the right sort of questions and grading the answers on a scale of 1 to 10.  Later they gave their scores to the interview panel for their judgement. We are sure the successful candidate will love working with us and we look forward to them starting.

We continue to work for the good of the school and would like anyone with any ideas for council to put them in the poly pocket on the council notice board.Thankyou.

February 08

Our school council are extremely busy this term preparing our exciting ECO day along with our ECO  team.  We have met with our school meals service to discuss the lunch time options and have decided to hold a number of tasting sessions with the theme 'Foods from other countries'

We will keep everyone informed in order that we can all experience some new tastes! We recently visited the Welsh Assembly buildings in Cardiff with the Eco Team.  We met our Assembly Member and learnt how to vote in a truly democratic manner using pods. They were great fun. Next we looked around the new building and heard about how it was designed and built for sustainability.  We did not know that every room has a natural source of light!  We had a fantastic day and learnt a lot about how decisions are made for the people of Wales.

Welcome Back!

We welcome the new year 3 children onto the school council and know that they will make a very valuable contribution to the running of our school.  Regular meetings will be arranged very soon and we are inviting pupils to give their ideas and thoughts about how we can make Waunarlwydd Primary an even BETTER school.  If you have any ideas then please put them in the Council poly pocket or box in the hall.  Thankyou.

2006/2007

The school council recently has a kind donation of new plants and shrubs from Mrs Ball. We planted them all in our school grounds and they really help improve the areas around the school.  We also met with Mrs Latimer regarding our new whole school initiative- 'Healthy Schools'.  We will be holding some exciting events in this area so watch this space for details.

Our school council has grown in strength this term with the introduction of 4 new members from year 2.  We look forward to working with the whole council for the remainder of this term and have some super ititiatives underway including the grand opening of our school grounds project.

Our School Council have been busy after a lovely restful Easter break.   We have purchased a lot of new toys with the proceeds from our fruit sales and these include large Connect 4 games which the mediators have kindly offered to move in and out of the yards at playtime.  Well done to the Council.

We were lucky enough to have been presented with an amazing fort and windmill made by a gentleman in Ty Waunarlwydd.  We learnt a lot about castles and how the keep was the last stronghold for the people inside.  They were made out of matchsticks and scraps of materials.  We will enjoy drawing and finding out more facts about castle life in the future.

Welcome back to everyone in Waunarlwydd Primary School.   After a very restful break we would like to welcome all pupils, parents and helpers back to school.  We will be very busy this term working with the Eco Team in achieving our Green Flag status.  We will have to conduct surveys and produce many new ideas to help recycle, reuse and reduce.  If anyone has ideas which may be of use to us please contact the school.  BBC 'newround' visit!!

The BBC's 'Newsround' team visited us last week to film a feature about our school council. The work of our school council and its success in providing a voice for all our pupils, is becoming well established and we are beoming used to a number of different schools and organisations visiting us to find out more.

The feature was a huge success and ran on Thursday's edition of the programme. You can view it again by accessing 'Newsround's' website.

Everyone involved in the discussions and filming had a great time and we even managed to teach Adam the presenter some welsh phrases at lunchtime!  We have offered to present more council developments as they occur so watch this space!

The ECO committee and School Council visited the Welsh Assembly Government in Cardiff to see the new building and learn all about the role of the Welsh Assembly members.  We held our own mini elections and has a go at using pods to vote with.  Next we were shown all around the new building and learnt lots of interesting facts and figures about how the building was designed.  We found out that every room inside has access to the daylight which reduces the need for artificial light, and that under the building are huge metal pillars which absorb and disperse heat from geothermals.  This means that radiators are hardly ever needed to heat the building.  We had the most amazing time and we all asked really difficult questions.  We then used the knowledge gained when we recently held our very own elections to appoint new council members.

National School Council Website Launch

Jayne Davidson, along with an invited party of representatives of a range of organisations, visited the school on Thursday, October 11th in order to officially launch the School Council Website. Our own School Councilmade its own presentation, highlighting some of the successes it has shared in over the past few years. The visitors had the opportunity to visit classrooms in order to witness at first hand, pupils actually using the website. It was as uperb visit and we are especially proud of the way in which even the youngest members of the council conducted themselves.  Our esteemed visitors were so impressed with the comments of the children that we have been asked to help develop and improve the website in conjuction with the Welsh Assembly.

WELL DONE TO EVERYONE!
