"Work hard, aim high, share and care"

Welcome!!

Mrs Morgans and Mrs Williams work together as SENCo (special needs co-ordinator) and support teachers. If a parent or teacher has any concerns about a child's educational progress then they may ask for support the SENCo. There are procedures laid down by the education authority which are designed to help you and your child get the support needed.

Please do not hesitate to come and see us at any time if you feel we can help.

Your child's teacher may write an individual education plan (IEP) which will set out specific targets for your child to work on. You will receive a copy of this and can discuss it at any time with your child's teacher or the SENCo. These targets are reviewed every term to check on the progress of your child. If your child's teacher feels that your child is still not making progress then outside agencies may be called in to help.

Access to learning - provide specialist teachers to support speech and language difficulties, behaviour problems, visual/hearing impairment and general learning difficulties.

Speech and language therapy (SALT) - is now a school based service which means that once your child is in full-time education you no longer have to take them to the clinic in Orchard Street in town. If the therapist is already aware of your child they will arrange to see them in school and provide a programme of work. If your child's teacher feels it is appropriate, the school may refer a child to be assessed by the therapist.

None of these agencies will be contacted without your permission.

Educational psychologist - visits school at least twice a term. He monitors children with statements of special educational needs and can assess children's learning and give advice. This will only take place with parental permission and a consultation meeting will take place with parental involvement before any assessment.

Support teaching groups - Every October/November the school takes part in the Local Educational Authority's Special Educational Needs Survey (SEN survey). All year two children across the county take part, as do all children currently receiving extra teaching suppport with Mrs Morgans and Mrs Williams. Teachers may also ask for other children to take part if they have concerns about their educational progress. The survey has a reading test and a writing test. The results are submitted to the LEA who will then assess the childrens' need for extra teaching suppport based on these results and any further evidence submitted by the school. If your child is identified as needing extra support you are informed by letter and your child is assigned a support teaching group for the year. Groups run from after February half term to before the next February half term.
