As well as being healthy, it is important that the lunchboxes are appealing to the children. Look at the different food groups on this link for tips on how to get the right balance of types of food. http://www.food.gov.uk/images/pagefurniture/eatwellplatelarge.jpg
Sandwiches Sandwiches could be ‘jazzed up’ by using different types of bread (e.g. pitta, wholemeal, wraps), or cutting different shapes into the bread (e.g. cars, stars, animals, triangles, circles – using cookie cutters) cutting the sandwich into bite size pieces, making pinwheel sandwiches etc.
Drinks
Just as with food, it is important to make sure you have chosen the right drink for the lunchbox. Water is the most thirst quenching but some children dislike plain water. Try to avoid fizzy/sugary drinks, perhaps opting for flavoured mineral water as an alternative. You could make your own by diluting squash with sparkling mineral water. Pure fruit juices could be diluted with water to reduce sugar and save money!
